Turn Off the Flame

Eczema, asthma, bloating, gas, post-nasal drip, overall puffiness, and weight gain. These were the awful symptoms I suffered for years before I removed cow’s milk completely from my diet. Initially giving up cheese was the hardest for me, but worth it!

For many people, cow’s milk is a silent, gut disruptor. However, its damage shows up in other parts of the body as well. Dairy is not the only cause of these symptoms, but it’s among the top five irritants for many people along with gluten, sugar, soy, and eggs. 

Part of the functional medicine approach that I use with my clients and I used myself to heal my own digestive issues is to REMOVE the things that are likely causing harmful reactions in the body instead of only treating the individual outward symptoms with medications like conventional medicine does. 

Consider that your digestive issues are much like a pot of pasta water boiling over onto the stove. Simply putting a lid on the pot won’t stop this unwanted mess from occurring. You must first remove the root cause of the problem by turning off the flame. As a first step, I help clients identify and then remove the likely root causes so that healing can begin. 

One strategy I help my clients with so they don’t feel deprived when removing certain foods is to ‘crowd them out’ with other enjoyable and nutrient-dense foods they may have not tried before.
